Research at the Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School
Since the 1930’s, the Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School has been a center of education and research focused on the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children and the training of pre-service teachers.
As the laboratory school for the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh, Falk serves as a site for research that is carried out by faculty and academic staff from the SOE, the Learning Research and Development Center, and other departments from within the university. Researchers from other academic institutions and the Falk faculty also conduct studies at the school.
Research projects approved by the Falk Research Committee to be conducted at the lab school are ones that address issues pertaining to the development and health of children ages 5-14 years. Projects have also been approved that relate to the pedagogical development of teachers and the improvement of teacher training.
Falk School hosts two to four studies per year. Protocols and additional information are available in the Procedures for Research and Researchers page of our website. The scope of research projects can be seen in the set of current and recent projects summarized in the Recent Research Projects page of our website.

What Makes Falk Special
The teachers are so nice and I've learned a lot! I like how the school is not too big so everybody knows each other."
